Privacy policy
Last updated 1 September 2026
This policy explains what information FilmNews (“we”, “us”) collects when you visit https://filmnews.uk, why we collect it, and what you can do about it.
The short version
There are no accounts on this site. We do not ask for your name, email address or payment details, and there is nothing to sign up for. What we do collect is anonymous usage data, and third-party cookies set by the services listed below.
What we collect
- Server logs. Our web server records the pages requested, the time, the referring page, your browser's user-agent string and your IP address. This is standard for any website and is used to keep the site running and to investigate abuse or faults.
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics (via Firebase) to understand how the site is used — which pages are viewed, which films and genres are popular, what people search for, and how far down a page they read. This is reported to us in aggregate. We do not use it to identify individuals.
- Advertising. We display advertising through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may set cookies to measure and personalise the ads you see, which may be based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
What we do not collect
We do not collect names, email addresses, postal addresses, phone numbers or payment information, because the site has no feature that asks for them. We do not sell data, and we do not build profiles of individual visitors ourselves.
Cookies
Cookies on this site come from the third parties above rather than from us directly. They fall into two groups: analytics cookies, which tell us how the site is used, and advertising cookies, which are used to select and measure ads. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and most browsers let you refuse third-party cookies entirely. The site works normally without them.
You can also opt out of personalised Google advertising at Google Ads Settings, and install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
Third parties
- Google — analytics and advertising. See Google's privacy policy.
- TMDB — film metadata and images. Posters and backdrops are loaded from TMDB's servers, so your browser contacts them directly when a page loads.
- News publishers — news items are short excerpts that link to the original article. Following one of those links takes you to a third-party site with its own privacy policy.
How long data is kept
Server logs are kept for a short period for operational purposes. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics' own retention settings. We do not maintain a separate database of visitor information.
Your rights
If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area, data protection law gives you rights over personal data relating to you, including the right to ask what is held, to ask for it to be corrected or erased, and to object to processing. Because we do not hold accounts or contact details, we usually hold nothing that identifies you personally — but you can still contact us with a query.
Children
This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
We may update this policy as the site changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
